InspiriTec’s employees are our key asset and the fruit of our mission. Each real-life story below reveals the impact made possible through our partnerships with commercial customers and the dedication of our committed supporters.
Mike • Customer Service Representative • Newark
I have a solid educational background: I graduated high school in 1997, took classes at a county college for 3 years, and had a few internships. I applied for hundreds of jobs, and went on multiple interviews, but the same patterns persisted. Once companies discovered my mobility issues, they were unable to offer me employment. I have Cerebral Palsy, which makes my knees bend and makes it hard to walk. It also affects my motor functions, making it difficult to do daily tasks. In 2012, DVRS sent me to a interview with InspiriTec. One of InspiriTec’s job requirements was to type at least 25 wpm, which I was unable to meet on my first test. I was devastated. However, InspiriTec’s social services case manager pulled me aside and encouraged me to continue practicing and to apply again (and again). I was finally able to type 25 wpm on my third try. Today, I work in our Newark, NJ call center, helping RNs, LPNs, and HHHAs with their application process. I tell customers about time frames, applications, fees, and other documents needed in order to be licensed. InspiriTec gives me constant encouragement and support, which has allowed me to do my job well. They are flexible with my scheduling, since they understand how my mobility and motor function issues affect my daily routine. Broken bus lifts, and out-of-order elevators, are frequent obstacles to my maintaining a set work schedule. InspiriTec understands. I do not believe any other employer would extend so many accommodations, just to help people with disabilities maintain their employment. I tell anyone who has a disability, or struggles to obtain employment, to: be patient, stay positive and motivated. There are places, like InspiriTec, where you will fit in and succeed!
