I have suffered from a significant mental health illness since I was 14 years old. My mental health illness made it challenging for me to communicate at the level necessary to attain competitive employment. I did have a job as a contractor with the federal government, but it ended in 2016…shortly after I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder. I earned an MBA in Management Accounting in March 2017, to improve my chances of getting a job. I also signed up with the State of NJ DVRS that April. After taking some temporary assignments, DVRS led me to InspiriTec, where I have worked for the last five years. InspiriTec has been a true blessing for me. Customer service is not an easy job, but InspiriTec gives us the training and supports required to get the job done. The Leads and Case Managers encourage me to stay calm, relax, and pace myself during calls. I am able to take a break off the phone, if I am too flustered or overwhelmed by a call. They also sit with me to listen on calls and provide extensive training. This support has especially helped me deal with irate callers and handle stress. When I started at InspiriTec, I struggled with communication, nerves, and self-expression. I was turned down from over 25 interviews. Now, I am doing award-winning work! I received Employee of the Month Awards in June 2019 and April 2021, and an Advocacy Award (from ACSES NJ) in October 2019. InspiriTec has made me feel valuable and independent, and has taught me to open up to other people with disabilities. The work we do helps people in our community, too. My project, for example, assists Home Improvement Contractors in New Jersey with licensing issues. The support and sponsorship from our government leaders has made InspiriTec a great place to work. I believe in having InspiriTec in every state in the country!
