When I retired from the Army in 2014, my options for civilian employment were limited. The experience I gained after 26 years of service – on tanks, as an instructor, and in Iraq and Bosnia – doesn’t transfer to most civilian careers. Having service-related disabilities, and only a high school diploma, were added challenges. The pain I have from my disabilities makes it difficult to do physical labor, stand for long periods, and even process information. I also have trouble hearing and sleeping. At InspiriTec, I found an accommodating employer that has given me a true career. I joined InspiriTec in 2017, and worked on the DSO project. I left because my wife and I decided to move to Florida…and came back when we returned to the Fort Knox area. Returning to InspiriTec was an easy decision, and they were glad to have me back! I was hired onto the ITSD project this time, where we resolve technical issues with machines for military, civilians, and contractors inside Army Human Resource Command (HRC). I started in 2020 as a Level 1 Analyst, but was promoted to Quality Assurance, and promoted again to Chief of Desk. In my current role, which I’ve had since 2023, I monitor the call queue and email inbox, and I assist Analysts with any issues they’re having. InspiriTec accommodates my disabilities by allowing me frequent breaks, extra time off when needed to make VA appointments – which often change on short notice, and a workstation that’s located close to exit points – so I can reach the restroom and breakroom quickly and without pain. InspiriTec took IT skills I gained through the Army and through self-exploration with computers, and further developed me into an IT professional. My favorite thing about InspiriTec? I get to keep the camaraderie of working with service members, but I also get to go home to my family every day!
