Gary • Field Support • Ft Knox
I retired from 24 years of active duty in the U.S. Army on New Year’s Day 2010. Between retirement and InspiriTec, I attempted to advance my education and civilian career. I earned my Associate’s degree in General Studies from Central Texas College. My jobs were in retail, and for a company that did maintenance on the beverage machines at McDonald’s. I was also living with undiagnosed TBI and underdiagnosed PTSD. It took eight years for the VA to accurately diagnose me, which raised my disability rating from 70% to 100%. When I found out about InspiriTec at a VFW job fair, I was unemployed. I started at InspiriTec on August 5, 2018 – my birthday – as a Tier 1 agent on the DSO project. The DSO provides beneficiary support and web services support for military members, their families, other eligible beneficiaries, and many government organizations. I began my current Field Support Role in Fall 2022. I applied for the Field Support position after I was informed of openings in the department and highly recommended. In Field Support, we serve ID card facilities and Trusted Agents (government contractors). After five years and two positions, I’m still happy at InspiriTec. I have a sense of purpose again. I also have more patience than ever. The military mindset is “DO IT NOW,” but at InspiriTec, I have to remind myself to be more forgiving with customers. InspiriTec helps me succeed at work by having covers over my computer screens and lights (I have migraines), and I am allowed extra breaks (but I don’t use them much). I love serving my brothers and sisters in the military. I never want to be too far away from them. I haven’t completely readjusted to civilian life, but thanks to InspiriTec, my job is one area where I have succeeded.
